Measurements

Measuring can be different from brand to brand so please take a look at how I do it here to better understand if the garments I make are right for you.

  1. Waist measurement- Pull the waist so that the top of the waistband is parallel to each other and measure straight across. These Big E's are 17.5" across so when doubled its 35".
  2. Front rise - I measure the front rise from the intersection where the inseam meets to the top of the waistband. This pair has a 11.75" front rise.
  3. Back rise - This measurement is the opposite of the last measurement. starting at the same point on the inseam but going along the back rise to the top of the waistband. This area is easily stretched, so make sure not to pull too hard. This pair has a 16" back rise.
  4. Top thigh - most brands measure this one a little lower than me, but I like to do this measurement perpendicular to the outseam, and all the way to the seam on the back rise. Make sure the pants are perfectly flat when doing this. This pair has a 13.25" top thigh measurement.
  5. Knee - This one is pretty self explanitory. I usually do this measrement 13" below the top thigh and straight across the knee. This pair has a 9.5" knee measurement.
  6. Hem - For this measurement, lay the tape right across the bottom opening of the pant. This pair has an 8" hem.
  7. Length - For the inseam, I start at the intersection on the rise and follow the inseam all the way to the hem. Here are 3 pictures. 2 close ups on starting and finishing locations and another pic of the whole tape measure. This pair has a 31.5" length.
